Unfortunately for us condeming Americans (particularly those of us who were looking to legitimately admonish conservatives for brash political rhetoric when in fact it's becoming clear there is no square blame), the Giffords shooter is clearly mental ill. 

Okay then, not exactly a grinning moment.

Yes, this guy is going to go through a court system with all the political emphasis on a need to angrily prosecute and imprison him and that may well wind up happening.  But the reality is he needs to be shipped off to an aslylum immediately.

I was also surprised to learn that Giffords is staunchly pro-gun rights, so, I can't help but wonder if this incident will in any way shape a new viewpoint.
