Here are some post-event links regarding the opening of Charlotte's starter light rail system. The experience was not unlike that of the opening of the Teco Line Streetcar 5 years ago when opening day crowds far outdid the system's entire capacity.
Picture by Justin Ruckman from his Lynx Opening Day Set. See below for link to more.It was a sign of good things to come in terms of regular ridership, and surely it's an equally good sign for Charlotte's LYNX.
In particular, I like this one:
'Good Start' Spurs Talk of Expansion. It's hard to imagine Charlotte residents getting the taste they did and not already be clamoring for the big question regarding expansion.
From what I've been following, of course, that expansion is already in the works. Or, it's at least viable. Charlotte residents voted in a dedicated transit tax a few years ago, and only a few weeks ago,
loudly reaffirmed it. This kept the existing expansion plans alive and means that the opening of this starter system really
is just the start.
Oh, there were a lot of people taking pictures of opening day. Here's
a list of PhotoBucket streams with Lynx and light rail as keywords.
It's important to remember, everything you're reading about in this post or in regards to LYNX in general, can happen here in Tampa with the same will and same support citizens rallied for there.
