The Rant
Seething at Governor Rick Scott continued unabated today with news largely swirling around efforts to override the Governor's position. You know things are bad when even Jeb Bush, killer of the first system, is surprised.
Realizing the state's unique problem it appears that the White House is extending a hand to help salvage the situation. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has agreed to hold up at least one week before parsing HSR cash out elsewhere. This may be enough time to whip a legislative end run around the Freak, though, as I type this, few have any concrete ideas about what that strategy would look like.
It is hope but let's be honest, if someone hasn't had a back-up plan on the shelf by now (this should have been anticipated once if not twice by now), what can we expect in just one week? And, bearing in mind that other states are pressuring the White House for the money, there could be issues in even trying to fight.
Understand What this is Really About
Floridians can talk about not re-electing Scott in 4 years and actually not do it, that's fine. But running a good and memorable government is not actually the objective of Mr. Scott. Rather, the focus is on destroying it. That's what he believes whether he can come to the table telling you and I that or not. Much like a suicide bomber only needs to be in the house but a second to cripple and destroy, Scott and his cronies only need 4 years to carry out their attacks. I guarantee you they don't even think about re-election. They think destruction and only destruction, making sure that government is forever crippled or maimed for decades to come after the fact.
The best hope for patience comes from a simple truth in all this. This rejection isn't about money or ridership figures. It's about the elitist cult figure and his duped majority and their combined hatered for Obama. By rejecting this rail system, Scott believes he is sending a message to Obama about Obama's agenda and his advancement to the highest power in the land. Obama signed off on the system in Florida and Rick Scott thereby understands the symbolic undertones in killing it. And he speaks for all Tea Partiers in doing so.
